Help me please!!! a poem called happiness by Michael Van Walleghen...WTF?!!?

The author is explaining how this poor dog, trapped in his fence, prancing about on mud and his own feces, is always happy. He uses the saints and angels, typically symbolic of rapture and goodness, to illustrate how even the grandest things of human contemplation can't compare to the simple joy of a trapped dog upon seeing his daily human visitor. The dog's existence is "truly wretched" as compared to the finery and fripperies of human existence yet humans are constantly complaining, unhappy, and dissatisfied. Yet this dog, even in the dreary and seemingly endless month of February, eclipses the pinnacles of humankind (saints and angels) in his simple doggy happiness and ecstasy.
