Is it common for childhood friends to drift apart in their teens ?

This is something I thought about recently when recalling the time when my friends & peers entered our teens.It did happen alot with people in my local area who were almost inseparable when they were kids but drifted apart when teenagers.I guess you just become interested in different things, especially the opposite , and there is less camaraderie among people.Well that was my experience anyway.
