Cost of living in Houston, TX?
Bring a heavy coat, and a thin coat. Move next to a walmart supercenter (walmart is an all-purpose store, that is inexpensive). You might find a nice apartment near a walmart. Typically, an area were there's a walmart, it is not the suburbs, nor is it very poor. Minimum wage for working is $7.25. In my experience, a nice 1 bedroom apartment can range from $600-$1,200. You can find some for $350-$550 a month, but those are typically in poor areas, with gangs and drugs. Plus they are almost always filled with roaches, and trust me, you wont like American roaches! I live in the Galleria area, and my rent is $720 a month, and it's a great area, that i would suggest. Also public transportation (metro) is $1.25. You can also take a yellow taxi cab, to and from your destination. To give you a rough estimate, I took a taxi to the other side of town which was probably 16 miles away, and i paid $65. That was in 2001, so maybe the prices have went higher. To find a job, get the Greensheet news paper, they are free at most stores.
