Does anyone know of the best way to get rid of roaches?

i live in a row home in southwest philadelphia and there are probably 10 or 12 houses connected in the row. i live on the end next to the alley. a while back i started noticing tiny roaches every once and a while. now they are everywhere (not litterally everywhere but there are a lot) they are bigger and some seem to have even be mutated into things ive never seen before. they are impossible to get rid of unless every house bombs their house at the same time. how can i at least deter them?
